The Onigiri Society is preparing to open their first onigiri shop on September 30th 2016. The shop specializing in onigiri, Japanese rice balls, is called Gyu!, and will be located on the 2nd floor of the well known Tokyo shopping destination, Laforet Department Store in the trending district of Harajuku, famous for fashion and pop culture.
The menu features both typical, and some very creative interpretations of the traditional and humble rice ball. By mixing the flavours of different cultures (a great skill of the Japanese) and applying them to onigiri, the Gyu! chefs have made a NEW TYPE of bite-sized onigiri which they have dubbed "onigiri-petit," priced at 300yen each (approximately $3.90CAD).
Through their experimentation in developing new onigiri, they have also delved into pairing certain with onigiri petit with liquors.
Of course, you can also enjoy traditional onigiri flavours (150yen each, approximately $2CAD) and miso soup too. Gyu! will offer a different flavour of miso soup every day.
If you have a chance to visit Japan, Gyu! in Laforet is a must visit pitstop while shopping in Harajuku.
Onigiri Society is an organization devoted to the promotion of onigiri both in Japan and around the world.
